About the Academy

This year (2005) is the tenth year the Academy has been running in the Manawatu and Horowhenua areas. We are very proud of the growth it has made over this time. Many of our enquiries are now coming from “word of mouth”.

My name is Sophia Parker and I am the Principal of the Helen O’Grady Children’s Drama Academy in the Manawatu area. I am a qualified teacher. I have past experience teaching in primary schools and teaching music. I have also been involved in theatre performing for many years both amateur and professional. I have a real love for music and the performing arts.
I am a very vibrant and enthusiastic person with a real passion for teaching, children and performance, so when I became Principal of the Academy in this area, I was very excited and the excitement continues to grow every year I am still involved. It is so rewarding to be able to teach a programme that children love, but also teach a programme that is going to change their lives in such a positive way. I see it happening on a weekly basis and get such positive feedback from parents, which makes it even more worthwhile. I am passionate about what I do and because of this I hope to continue doing it for many years to come.
